Why It Matters
Gender equality is not just a women’s issue, it’s a human issue. EmpowerHER believes that everyone, regardless of gender, deserves equal access to opportunities, safety and representation.
By bringing together diverse voices from across Europe, the project helps shape a new generation of young leaders who are ready to challenge stereotypes, take action and lead with empathy and courage.
EmpowerHER is more than an Erasmus+ project. It’s a youth-driven journey toward a Europe of fairness, inclusion and shared responsibility.
Activities:
- Youth Workshop: Empowering Youth for Gender Equality Initiatives
The journey of EmpowerHER begins with a dynamic youth workshop designed to ignite awareness, confidence and collaboration among participants. This activity introduces young people to the principles of gender equality, active citizenship and leadership through interactive, non-formal learning methods. Participants explore the meaning of equality in everyday life and reflect on the barriers that still exist within their communities. Through team exercises, discussions and creative challenges, they build essential skills in communication, critical thinking and public speaking. The workshop also helps them understand how they can contribute to the EU Youth Strategy and European Youth Goal #5 – Gender Equality and Equal Opportunities for All. More than just a training session, this workshop becomes a space where participants begin to see themselves as advocates for inclusion, developing the confidence and motivation to take initiative in their own environments. It sets the foundation for all following EmpowerHER activities, inspiring youth to act, lead and empower others.
- 2. Council of Europe Simulation: Youth Engage as Members of the Council of Europe Crafting Policies, Regulations and Formal Protocols to Promote Gender Equality
In this immersive simulation, young participants step into the roles of policymakers and members of the Council of Europe, gaining first-hand experience in democratic decision-making. They learn how international institutions debate, negotiate and draft policies that promote equality, inclusion and human rights. Through structured discussions, role-playing and consensus-building activities, participants collaborate to design realistic proposals for advancing gender equality in their countries and across Europe. This experience not only strengthens their understanding of governance but also enhances their critical thinking, argumentation and teamwork skills. The simulation helps bridge the gap between youth and decision-makers, showing participants that their opinions can shape real policies when expressed constructively. By the end, they leave with a greater appreciation of civic participation and a clear sense of empowerment, knowing that their voice has the potential to influence the world around them.
- 3. Gender Equality Advocacy Initiative: Youth Equality Change-Makers
This phase transforms learning into action. After gaining knowledge and confidence from the first activities, participants design and implement their own local advocacy initiatives focused on promoting gender equality. Supported by mentors and partner organizations, they identify issues relevant to their communities – such as equal access to opportunities, representation or awareness of gender stereotypes – and develop creative projects to address them. These initiatives may take the form of workshops, campaigns, school visits or artistic actions. The goal is to help young people understand how local action connects to European values, while giving them ownership of their ideas. Participants learn project planning, community engagement and media communication skills, turning theory into practice. By becoming youth equality change-makers, they demonstrate that every small action matters and that young people can lead the transformation toward fairer, more inclusive societies.
- 4. Gender-Inclusive Campaign
The Gender-Inclusive Campaign is a vibrant, youth-driven communication action designed to amplify the messages of equality, diversity and respect. Guided by their experiences from previous activities, participants create visual and digital materials – such as short videos, posters, interviews and social media content – that challenge stereotypes and promote inclusion. The campaign runs both online and offline, engaging schools, local communities and European audiences through storytelling, creativity and authentic youth voices. It highlights real stories of empowerment and solidarity, showing how gender equality benefits everyone, not just one group. Participants develop valuable skills in media literacy, digital communication and campaign design, learning how to use creativity as a tool for social change. The campaign becomes a celebration of youth leadership, inviting others to join the EmpowerHER movement and contribute to a more equal Europe, one post, one story and one action at a time.
- 5. Open Dialogue on Policy Reforms – “Fostering the participation of the Youth Community on Gender Equality issues in Europe”
The project reaches its peak with a transnational event that brings together youth, policymakers, educators and local authorities in an open dialogue. This activity serves as a bridge between young citizens and decision-makers, allowing participants to present their ideas, advocacy results and campaign outcomes. Together, they discuss challenges and opportunities related to gender equality and explore new policy approaches that promote inclusion and youth participation. The dialogue is structured as a collaborative space, not a conference, but a true conversation where every voice counts. It encourages mutual learning and helps policymakers better understand the needs and perspectives of young people. For participants, it’s a transformative experience: they see how their engagement can influence public life and shape real change. By the end, they leave not only inspired but also equipped with practical recommendations to continue promoting gender equality within their communities and beyond.
